If you like boating, take a 38-mile inland waterway trip from Lake Huron through a chain of rivers, locks and scenic lakes. Many day trips by automobile are available, taking you to forts, parks, and through a tunnel of trees to villages where you can browse in elegant boutiques.

Or leave your car, take a ferry boat and step back in time to experience an unhurried vacation on Mackinac Island where transportations is limited to horse-drawn carriages.

Three of the Great Lakes, Lake Superior, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, border the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Experience beautiful Tahquamenon Falls, the third-largest waterfall in the eastern United States.

One hour north of the Mackinaw Bridge is the “northern –most” Botanical garden in Michigan located in DeTour, which is surrounded on three sides by water and well known as the” Gateway to the North Channel “. Visit Hessel, Cedarville, and Drummond Island area, which The Nature Conservancy has called one of the last great places in the western hemisphere. Take the Drummond Island Ferry to the Island where there are two historic lighthouses, several Nature Conservancy wildlife areas, a 75 mile kayak trail in Lake Huron and miles of deserted beaches. You may enjoy hiking, bird-watching, bicycling and camping.

Munising is the home of nearby Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Though beautiful at any time, one of the best ways to see the grandeur of the beautiful weathered rocks along Lake Superior is to take the Pictured Rocks Cruise in the evening with the sun setting on the rocks. While in the area be sure to take in a Shipwreck Tour. There you’ll see a 113 square-mile State Preserve with diving tours.
