Detroit
You can’t come to this region of Michigan without exploring all that the Motor City has to offer. There’s a beautiful new river walk that allows a stroll along the Detroit River, gambling casinos, Comerica Park and Ford Field-newer stadiums constructed for the Detroit Tigers and Lions. Don’t miss the Detroit Institute of Arts; take in a show at the beautiful Fox Theatre, or an opera at the Detroit Opera House. There’s Greektown, Mexicantown and so much more. It’s a city steeped richly in the history of the American automobile industry. Detroit’s architecture and riverfront skyline is a sight to behold.
Take a scenic drive out of Detroit along Lakeshore Drive through the Gross Point area and see the lovely mansions along the St. Clair River. Stop and tour Edsel and Eleanor Ford’s (son of Henry Ford) home.
Dearborn is a nearby suburb of Detroit and is the location of the Henry Ford, a famous museum that is a must see. Next to the Henry Ford is Greenfield Village. Many of the structures that Henry Ford and Thomas Edison worked in have been moved to the village as well other famous dwellings like the Firestone Farm (an actual working farm operated as it was in the lat e 19th century), a lovely windmill, a tavern, and the Daniel Webster home to name a few. There are many activities in the village you will want to see like the glass blowers in the glass factory.
You can also tour the nearby mansion of Henry and Clara Ford.
There are suburbs surrounding Detroit that feature fabulous places to shop and dine.
